Don Ramón María del Valle-Inclán, contains a double portrait, that of the portraitist and that of the person portrayed, the two Ramones.
Exploring the life, work and soul of Valle-Inclán, the play allows us to observe his tools of analysis, his instruments of dissection, his aesthetic canon. This is how the miracle of the stylistic and vital sum of two literary creators who are essential to understanding a large part of 20th century Spanish literature is brought about.
There have been many dithyrambic approaches to the figure of Valle, some of them quite grotesque in fact, in an attempt to honour the genre he baptised.
Tha play invites us to take another path, closer to intimacy, to everyday reality, to the valuation of ethical principles sometimes obscured by distortion. He invites us, in short, to acquire an in-depth knowledge of Valle’s creative mechanisms, his irreducible commitment to his ethical position in the world and how all this generates one of the masterpieces of our literature.
