Una noche sin luna [A Moonless Night] is a moving and remarkable piece that talks to us about Lorca from a 21st-century perspective, as if Federico himself were here among us.

In this play, we examine the lesser-known aspects of Federico García Lorca’s life and work. The journey proposed by the production is not archaeological in nature; rather it is a way of understanding our own reality through his work. As such, the play becomes a living, bold and dynamic piece, in which Lorca’s words, life and world hold up a mirror to our own.

The piece includes interviews with Federico García Lorca, as well as talks, speeches and fragments of his works and some of his poems. Through these elements and the playwriting of Juan Diego Botto, it is Lorca himself who, in the first person, brings us into his world.

With great irony, emotion and humour, the author recounts his time in the Residencia de Estudiantes student residence, the criticism received of Yerma, his experience in La Barraca, his relationship with the press, his loves, and the tension of his last years. Through all of this we progressively approach topics such the role of women as seen through the eyes of a poet and advocate, the need for artistic freedom and freedom of expression, the fight for freedom of sexual identity, and the importance of memory and roots.
