Summer of 2024. The political-social-economic-cultural panorama we find ourselves in is asphyxiating. Dreams? Unattainable. No one has managed to become what they really wanted to become. Vocation is a thing of the past, especially for anyone involved in theatre. Anyone halfway intelligent scarpered when they started closing the theatres down. Others like José Telón Bravo-Bravo and María Josefa de los Santos, that multi-award-winning couple that once delighted us with their tours around the Aljarafe region, didn’t give up until they were evicted, until the only stage they had to their name was the street itself. Today, their stage set is their own ruins. Their only spectators are each other. Now they’re just Pepe and Pepi: two fallen stars.
Dolores is just a love story. Hateful love, frozen passion, fecund sterility, withered youth. The protagonists of this story don’t feel butterflies in their stomachs when their eyes meet, they feel sick. They’re not pierced by Cupid’s arrow but by terrible pains: hearts broken by lies, lungs swollen by failures, festering feelings of reproach, dreams turned rotten... How far are we willing to sacrifice ourselves for love? Apart from our scarred souls, what are we left with when we have given everything we have to give? And yet, in spite of everything, it’s only in our scars that we can really see who we once were. Maybe by reopening and exploring old wounds we can soothe our pain. Maybe we can write the story all over again with the blood that flows from them.
